Freaky Friday (2003)

A Disney remake of a comedy it made in 1976 when Jodie Foster played a daughter (now played by Lindsay Lohan) who switches bodies with her Mom (then played by Barbara Harris, here by Jamie Lee Curtis) is considerably better than the original.

Designed for the pre-and early teen (girl) market with an updated script involving a girl rock band (which justifies a zippy power pop soundtrack), it is light on laughs for an older audience but likeable enough as a family movie. It comes with a nice message about the girls being alright, love and understanding between the generations. and a 6 inch thick sugar-coated ending. Jamie Lee Curtis who, to her credit, appears to have chosen to age naturally, is no comedienne (and also appears to have made a serious enemy in the wardrobe department) but plays with gusto a part that I can imagine few middle-aged actresses leaping at. Lohan, relying less on facial grimaces, has a better time of it as the mother-for-a-day.
