Dead Easy

A precursor to better-known Australian crime capers movies like Two Hands (1999) and Dirty Deeds (2002), this story of a young punk (Scott Burgess) on the make in Sydney's King’s Cross “adult entertainment” industry is a rough-and-ready but vibrant affair from Deling who had already attained some notoriety with Pure S(hit) (1975).

An assortment of old school crims, crooked cops and loose women, low budget gaudiness, tacky wardrobe and a pretty good car chase constitute the movie whcih provides a lot of fun, as much for its tongue-in-cheek style as for its content. Whether intentionally or not, Deling, who did little more after this movie, had a knack for showing the lead actress, Rosemary Paul, in her worst light. Understandably she never made another film, whilst Burgess went on to a middling television career.

DVD Extras: Both audio and video quality of this transfer are not great, but better, of course, than no film at all. The DVD transfer comes with a short introduction by Kings Cross identity and sometime TV celebrity, Carlotta, who appears in the film as Ron.
